Viking Starter Tunic
Never forget the simple things!
This is a basic undyed linen tunic, hand-finished with running stitches, based on reconstructions of fragments found in 9-10th century Birka. This is the most common iteration of the garment pattern based upon what we know about the pieces we have.
Linen tunics in the Viking Age were typically worn as undergarments. But it's much warmer here in the US than in northern Europe, so often linen tunics are acceptable as outerwear as well for reenactment.
I try to keep my work accessible to newcomers, because I know an authentic tunic and an affordable tunic are not often the same. I had the good fortune of knowing how to make things when I got into this lifestyle, but not everyone does. As such, this tunic was tailored to measure for a buyer as his first piece of kit with affordability in mind, and was made to be worn as an outer tunic for now or an undertunic when he upgrades. With it, I send my hopes that he will feel as enriched in this hobby as I do.
