Iron Age Gear

Image
Some of the equipment of a germanic auxiliary rebel in the 1st century. War knife is based on finds from Illerup Adal and Vimose; hex shield is based on depictions from the Trophy Tableu sculptures and other imagery (the paint is original, but appropriate in theme); helm is based on the Batavian helmet found at Gelduba. The lorica hamata was used consistently by auxilia from the 2nd century BC into the 4th century AD according to written records.

"Plain" Weave

Here's a little video of the weaving process for the diamond twill I finished the other day. I added some basic explanations for those interested in understanding how it works and what the process is like. Enjoy!
